The Kristaps Porzingis experience in Boston so far this season:
Yesterday there was a rematch from the last Eastern Conference Finals. The Boston Celtics visited the American Airlines Arena to clash with an old familiar face, the Miami Heat. Despite the hype around this game, Boston handled Miami like it was no big deal at all. Kristaps Porzingis was playing sensational until a sprained ankle forced him out of the game.
There's just no luck when it comes to Porzingis' health. The european "unicorn" showcases his talent everytime he's on court with his Celtics teammates. The thing is, he misses so many games due to injuries, that deprive us spectators, to see what his full potential looks like.
This is not new by any means. Since the Knicks drafted him, back in 2015, he proved that he can play. He has the length, he has the shooting, he has the defense. He's also injury prone. That was the most important reason why the Knicks traded him to the Mavs a few seasons ago.
With the Mavs he also had his fair share of health issues, and the incompatibility with Luka Doncic got him sent to the Wizards.
Everywhere he's been he had some really good performances, but he also missed several games.
With the Celtics, he already missed 12 of 45 games. Luckily for Boston, they have a lot of depth that helps them deal with this situation. But come the playoffs, when the game gets way more physical, they will need Kristaps to be ready.
Porzingis sprained his ankle yesterday. The latvian was having a phenomenal night, 19 points, 66% from the field and 75% from long distance.
Now, he's expected to miss a crucial game against the Clippers on Saturday night, but he could be cleared to return at some point next week.
With Porzingis healthy, the Boston Celtics are the clear cut favorites to win the Larry O'Brien trophy, next June.
