As the trade deadline comes closer, we have new teams joining in the push to acquire a valuable player that gives their franchise that edge they're looking for. This is the case for the Dallas Mavericks, interested in Washington Wizards' Kyle Kuzma. Now, Sacramento Kings are reportedly after the young forward too, aiming to bring some help to Domantas Sabonis.
Kuzma signed a four-year contract with Washington in the offseason, maintains a solid position at the negotiating table and little urgency to transfer at this time. His on-court performance has stabilized his trade value, averaging 21.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 42 games, shooting 34.3% from beyond the arc.
This potential trade appears to align with the criteria outlined by Mavericks minority co-owner Mark Cuban on the type of player that could help the team at this time. Cuban expressed on The Freak-FM 97.1's Ben and Skin Show that acquiring a tall player capable of creating off the bounce would be a plus. Kuzma, at 6-foot-6, meets that requirement.
For the Kings, Kuzma would represent an upgrade over Harrison Barnes. While Barnes has historically been a better shooter (39.4% on three-pointers this year and 37.9% for his career), Kuzma excels as a scorer and has superior playmaking ability, averaging 3.8 assists per game since arriving in Washington in 2021.
In addition, Kyle Kuzma brings championship experience with him, as he was an important member of the Lakers roster that won the ring in 2020, averaging 11 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1 assist in the NBA bubble.
