Today we wonder if
Klay Thompson can be eligible this year for one of the awards that the NBA gives at the end of the season
And the answer is that he
Golden State Warriors veteran shooting guard will not be able to win the
Sixth Man of the Year Award. The award is designated
for players who performs well after coming on as a substitute in the regular NBA
season.
However, there are certain conditions to be met by a player
to be nominated for such an award. One of the criteria to be nominated for the
award is for a player to play at least 65 games in a season.
As things stand, Thompson has played in 53 out of the 57
matches and with at least 25 games remaining in the schedule, he is all set to complete
the criteria to be nominated for the award.
However, there is one obstacle which rules him out of the
race. Thompson has only come off the bench in just four matches. With just 25
matches remaining in the regular season, he can only come off the bench in 29
matches. That will be well short of a condition where a player must come off
the bench in 42 matches in a regular season.
Thompson is having a fabulous season for the Warriors where
he is contributing 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. In his
most recent outing against the Washington Wizards, he registered 25 points to
go with three rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes.
The best outing for the
Los Angeles-born this season came in the match against the Utah Jazz where he
contributed 35 points to go with six rebounds and two assists to his name in
just 28 minutes.
