Brian Windhorst, well-known around the league for being maybe the LeBron "expert" (sort wised), shared some interesting thoughts about the King's future.
On ESPN's "The Hoop Collective" podcast, Windhorst affirmed to be skeptic about whether or not LeBron James continue wearing a Lakers uniform in 2025.
"I don’t know what’s gonna happen with LeBron in 2025,” said Windhorst, per Sports Illustrated. “I feel like LeBron is gonna play next year, but I don’t know if it’s gonna be for the Lakers.”
Windhorst has built a succesful career covering James for more than 20 years, being linked to him since The King's times in St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. His words are not to be taken lighty.
LeBron turned 39 last December. He flirted this last offseason with the idea of retiring, although it was more of a thought, a realization that the day is coming, sooner rather than later. He currently holds a $51.4 million player option for 2024-25.
His son Bronny is eligible for the upcoming draft, and he could be the key to know what will be the future of the 4 time champion. Perhaps LeBron declines his option and goes to play where Bronny ends up, it is a possibility.
The Lakers want to keep James, but this season have been bumpy. Front office needs to assure LeBron that they are working day and night in order to build a championship team for the King.2
