On Wednesday night, the
Dallas Mavericks faced a tough loss against the Los Angeles Lakers and they are now the seventh team in the Western Conference with a 24-18 record. They are clearly doing very well this season but there is speculation about them improving the roster in the weeks ahead before the February trade deadline.
According to
Jake Fischer, the Mavericks have contemplated trading for
Charlotte Hornets forward
P.J. Washington.
So far this season, Washington is averaging 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while going 42% from the field and 31% from the three-point line.
The Mavericks are reportedly interested in Washington for a number of reasons. Firstly, he is versatile and can add offensive power but he is also strong on defense. The Mavericks have struggled to minimize their opponents all season long and they would love to improve their defensive plans.
Washington is also young, just 25 years old, and could improve in the years ahead.
Finally, Washington's output has dipped a little bit this season, which means Dallas might be able to acquire him for a lower price point.
Fischer's report also stated that the Mavericks could be interested in Andrew Wiggins, currently of the Golden State Warriors. However, Wiggins would probably be much costlier for the Mavericks.
There is also a chance that the Mavericks don't make any moves before the deadline, opting to again commit to this current lineup for the rest of the season with hopes of pushing far into the playoffs.
