Dallas Mavericks registered a much-needed win against an in-form Denver Nuggets side in their most recent fixture with a score of 107-105 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Sunday.
The victor was the Mavericks’ fifth in the last six matches which kept the side on the seventh position in the Western Conference with 39 wins and 28 defeats.
What now for Mavericks?
The result kept the Mavericks' hopes alive for finishing the regular season outside the play-in position. As things stand, they have a realistic chance of overtaking one of the two teams above.
Currently, the New Orleans Pelicans are sitting in the fifth position in the Western Conference table with 41 wins and 26 defeats whereas the Sacramento Kings are placed in the sixth position with 38 wins and 28 defeats.
Easy schedule ahead
According to NBA Draft Order & Lottery Simulator Tankathon, the Mavericks currently have the second easiest schedule after the Boston Celtics.
Their tough fixtures are against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Kings, the Miami Heat and the Golden State Warriors whereas their relatively easier fixtures are up against the sides like San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz, Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets.
Those fixtures will give a much-needed boost for the Mavericks fans as they will be hoping that their team will register wins which will be enough to take the side into the top-six.
Star power
Luka Doncic’s return to the very best in the match against the Nuggets will be a welcome sign for the Mavericks.
The 25-year-old was simply too hot to handle in the game on Sunday where he registered 37 points to go with 10 rebounds and three assists.
With the Mavericks needing important wins in the upcoming matches, Doncic’s role will be even more important than in the remaining fixtures.
