The Brooklyn Nets surprised the NBA with a comfortable road victory 130-112 against the Los Angeles Lakers last Friday. Lakers coach Darvin Ham had some words about his team's inconsistency after the game.
The Lakers came from two solid wins against tough Western Conference rivals, they defeat the Mavericks on Wednesday and prior to that they've also handled the OKC Thunder without much problems. Both wins brought air to the West Coast and it seemed that LeBron and company were beginining to climb upon the Western Conference standings.
The Nets on the other hand, came to visit LA after 4 straight defeats, and with the differences of mommentums of both teams, this match looked like a pretty possible triumph for Ham's squad.
LA played a solid first half, but during the 3rd quarter things took a shift. Their offense stagnated, the transition defense wasn't there the body language showed was...not the best. The Nets outscored the Lakers by 16 points and then, they reaffirmed that, winning again the last period 30-22.
“Our defensive was terrible, in the third quarter especially,” said Anthony Davis (26 points, 12 rebounds). “You have two great games against two solid opponents — two statement wins, in a sense — and you just want to carry that momentum to tonight.”
“I thought for the most part our effort, our pace, us sharing the ball … it was all clicking,” said the Lakers' head coach. “They started to make a run, and we kind of fell apart. Just felt like we got disappointed. Some calls we thought we should've gotten didn't go our way. They made some shots. We hold the ball, start slowing down, becoming indecisive.
“…Talk about a tale of two different halves. That first half is what we're working towards coming out of those last two wins, and then the inconsistency reared its head in the second half. We just have to decide which team we're gonna be. … It's over for the excuses, man,” added Ham.
While the King finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, it wasn't one of his classic nights. He commited a lot of turnovers, and shot the ball with poor efficience. More preciselly LeBron ended up 9-22 from the field.
"I thought us not getting stops affected our energy, personally,” said James.
Good team victory for the Nets, Cam Thomas was their leading scorer with 33. Nick Claxton had a great game as well, finishing with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lakers will have a chance to redeem themselves this Sunday, when they'll face the Portland Trail Blazers, one of the league's worst teams this season.
The Nets are staying in Los Angeles, as they will be playing against the Clippers on Sunday. Brooklyn will look to get another win before they fly back to New York, aiming to get a spot for the Play-in.
