“I just told him he’s the best player in the league.” 👀 Joel Embiid tells @ALaForce what he told Nikola Jokić after their hard-fought battle tonight!
Two of the biggest teams in the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets, squared off on Tuesday night, with the Sixers being able to secure a 126-121 victory.
Following the win, Philadelphia superstar Joel Embiid was caught on camera sharing a few hushed words with Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets.
No one was entirely sure what Embiid said to the reigning Finals MVP but he revealed the truth to Allie LaForce of TNT.
"I just told him he’s the best player in the league...He won a championship, and that [Nuggets] is the best team in the league. He’s the Finals MVP, and I just told him, ‘Keep going, keep doing your thing – that’s why you’re the best in the league.’”
Both Embiid and Jokic were hugely important to their teams during the game. Embiid posted 41 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Jokic scored 25 points and 19 rebounds.
Embiid definitely thinks that Jokic is the best of the best but he is also angling to achieve the very same thing that the Nuggets have.
The Philadelphia 76ers haven't reached the Eastern Conference Finals since 2001 and have repeatedly fallen short in the playoffs.
Embiid's goal has always been to lead his team to a championship and he is hoping that he can do that this year.
The 76ers are currently the third-best team in the East with a 26-13 record, while the Nuggets are also third in their conference with a record of 28-14.
