Scottie Pippen Jr., the 23-year-old son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, has agreed to a two-year, two-contract with the
Memphis Grizzlies, setting the stage for Pippen to have another shot at finding success in the league.
Pippen's agent, Erika Ruiz of Klutch Sports Group, announced the news to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN on Monday.
Pippen has been a part of the league in some ways since 2022, when he went undrafted out of Vanderbilt. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers for six games in the 2022-23 season and averaged just 2.3 points in 5.3 minutes per game.
During his years in college, Pippen was second in scoring in the SEC during his sophomore year. It was then that he averaged 20.8 points per game and scored 30 ore more points five times during the 2021-22 season.
His transition to the NBA wasn't as easy and he has been playing with the NBA G League's South Bay Lakers after his brief stint with LA.
Pippen is, of course, the son of Chicago Bulls icon Scottie Pippen, a six-time champion and considered one of the best basketball players of all time.
He comes to the Memphis Grizzlies during a very tricky time for the team. Impaired by injuries to players like Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Steven Adams, and Ja Morant, the team has been suffering and sitting toward the bottom of the Western Conference.
The team was in bad shape before the return of Morant, who sat out of the first 25 games of the season due to a suspension leveled by the league. The team found a decent amount of success when Morant came back but he was only able to play a few games before injuring himself and exiting for the rest of the year.
