This matchup between two division rivals was an absolute thriller, as DeMar Derozan looked like his vintage self and came up clutch in the biggest moment of the game. He led the Chicago Bulls to a 132-129 victory against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in this overtime classic.
The Bulls were trailing by 2 with 2.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Alex Caruso was inbounding the ball from the sideline and DeMar Derozan cut near the baseline toward the far corner. The pass went to Deebo and he caught the ball, turned 180 degrees, and shot a fade-away midrange jumper to tie the game and force overtime. The announcers went crazy while the fans in Indianapolis were stunned.
In the overtime period, the 6-time All-Star scored 9 of the teams 15 points to seal the victory. The 3-time All-NBA member has proven to be one of the best midrange scorers in the NBA and he proved it again in this one. He looked like his vintage Toronto Raptor self as he scored a season-high 46 points with 9 rebounds and absolutely took over this game.
Alex Caruso finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists while knocking down 5 three pointers. Ayo Dosunmu scored 20 points on 7/12 shooting while Nikola Vucevic had 12 points and 12 boards. Coby White recorded 15 points but got injured toward the end of regulation after getting blocked on a layup attempt, so he will get further evaluated in the next few days.
Myles Turner had a big game for the Pacers as he led the team with 27 points while shooting 5/8 from deep. Tyrese Haliburton recorded 17 points and 14 assists while Pascal Siakam had 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. T.J. McConnell contributed 16 points off the bench.
Chicago improves to 32-34 with this win and remain the 9th seed in the East. This was a huge victory for them as they continue to prove that they can compete with anyone and if they were healthy, they could be a threat in the East. The Bulls are 6-4 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow.
Indiana drops to 37-30 with this loss and falls to the 7th seed in the East. This was a devastating defeat for the Pacers as they were 2.4 seconds away from winning their 3rd straight game. Instead, they are now in a play-in spot and have gone 5-5 over their last 10 contests. They’ll look to bounce back on Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets.
