Nikola Jokic recorded his 22nd triple-double of the season as he led the
Denver Nuggets to a 113-100 victory over the
New York Knicks at Ball Arena to continue climbing up the standings.
The reigning NBA champs are looking to go back-to-back this postseason and win another title in June. They would like to have home court advantage in every series leading up to the Finals and to do so, they’d have to be the #1 seed.
It’s been a 3-team race for most of the season between the Nuggets, Thunder, and Timberwolves. However, following the KAT injury, it’s been neck and neck between Denver and OKC, as they are now tied for the top spot out West (Oklahoma City owns the tiebreaker).
The Joker finished with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. Michael Porter Jr. scored a game-high 31 points with 8 rebounds on 13/16 shooting while Jamal Murray recorded 23 points, 6 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Aaron Gordon had 10 points and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope ended with 6 points with 3 blocks.
Jalen Brunson scored a team-high 26 points with 9 assists while
Isaiah Hartenstein had an all-around performance, finishing with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks on 80% shooting. Alec Burks provided 18 points off the bench while Donte DiVincenzo and Miles McBridge each scored 11 points.
Denver improves to 49-21 with this win and now are tied with OKC for the top seed in the West. It’s a back and forth battle between these 2 teams and whoever can land the #1 spot will have a huge advantage in the playoffs if they face off against one another. The Nuggets are playing great basketball and looking like the team to beat out West, as they are 8-2 over their last 10 games. Next up on the schedule is a meeting with the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday.
New York drops to 41-28 with this loss and fall to the 5th seed in the East. The Knicks are fighting for a top 4 seed to earn home court advantage, so sliding down the standings isn't ideal. They are 6-4 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday.
