The Indiana Pacers have been key protagonists in this trade market after signing
Toronto Raptors' All Star forward
Pascal Siakam. However, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe, that was not the Indianapolis franchise's primary plan.
Before focusing on the versatile Raptors franchise player, Indiana explored other alternatives, and one of them involved
Utah Jazz star,
Lauri Markkanen.
Lowe revealed that the Pacers were in contact with several teams, and the Jazz were one of the recipients of their calls.
"The Pacers, in the weeks prior - before they were certain of Siakam's availability - were one of several teams that contacted Utah about [Lauri] Markkanen," Lowe reported. "However, in those conversations, the Jazz showed zero interest in parting with Markkanen."
Who knows where Pascal Siakam would have ended up if the Jazz had agreed to trade Lauri Markkanen to the Pacers. However, what's done is done, and the Pacers find themselves with a new signing of a great player on their roster with which to aspire to continue growing.
For now, Indiana sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a 24-18 record, and their goal is to, at least, avoid the play-in and get to the Playoffs directly.
