The
Golden State Warriors season went from bad to worse on
Sunday as they suffered another defeat, this time against the Minnesota
Timberwolves with a score of 114-110.
We are bringing you in detail what that result means for the
Warriors in terms of qualifying for the playoffs this season.
Destiny still in own hands
After Sunday’s result, the Warriors' destiny, by
the look of it, is still in their own hands. As things stand, the Warriors are
placed in the 10th position in the Western Conference with 36 wins
and 34 defeats.
On the other hand, the Houston Rockets are placed just a
place below them with 35 wins and 35 defeats.
Therefore, if the Warriors manage to equal the Rockets’ from now on
till the end of the regular season, they will be in a position to qualify for
the Play-in tournament.
Tough road ahead
The Warriors are facing a tough schedule from now on till
the end of the season. Eight out of their remaining 12 fixtures are away from home
and in that, they will go up against two teams who are fighting to keep their
hopes alive of the play-in tournament — the Los Angeles Lakers and the Rockets.
Other than that, they are set to face Dallas Mavericks twice
who are also pushing to register their place in the top-six to avoid the
play-in tournament. However, to their good luck, they have some easy fixtures
too against the likes of Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz (twice).
Too much burden on Curry
There is clearly too much burden on the likes of Curry as
the Warriors push to keep their playoff hopes alive. The 36-year-old was the
star performer on Sunday as he registered 36 points but he cannot do
everything on his own and therefore, other players must stand and start
delivering much better performances from now on till the end of the season.
