The Milwaukee Bucks came into tonight's game upset after getting blown out on Tuesday night to the Miami Heat without Jimmy Butler. This was a "get right" game for them, as they were expecting to pick up a win and head into All-Star weekend on a positive note.
However, things did not go as planned. The young, shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies were playing with a bunch of backups and players on 10-day contracts, and they pulled off a huge upset as they defeated the Bucks 113-110 at FedExForum behind a huge GG Jackson scoring night.
The second-round pick had 27 points off the bench with 6 made three pointers. 3rd year forward Ziaire Williams also scored 27 points, hitting 4 of his threes. Vince Williams Jr. had an all-around night, finishing with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The bigger story is on the Bucks side. They rolled out their entire unit but still couldn't pick up a win against a tanking team. Giannis Antetokounmpo showed up as usual, scoring 35 points and picking up 12 assists while shooting 15/17 from the field. Damian Lillard had 24 points but only shot 33% and Brook Lopez had a double double, ending with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Following this game, the crew on Inside the NBA broke down their thoughts following this contest. 4-time champion Shaquille O'neal stated that this Milwaukee Bucks team looks like a championship team on paper but is far from that on the court. He said that they are looking like they'll get swept in the first round based on how they've been looking under Doc Rivers.
Kenny "The Jet" Smith said that this is the lowest point in the Bucks season. He stated that the 2021 NBA champs hit rock bottom tonight and believes that something needs to change inside that locker room. The 2-time champion said that this loss was embarrassing and he doesn't know why they are struggling this bad.
Charles Barkley pointed out how the Bucks looked desperate tonight, using all the tricks in their bag to try to win this game. He even joked about them going into a zone against a bunch of G-League level talent, saying that this is not something a championship team would be doing.
Host Ernie Johnson acknowledged that Milwaukee is struggling and that they are now 3-7 under Doc Rivers. In his postgame press conference, the Bucks head coach agreed, saying that something needs to change. He was visibly frustrated and said that they've been making the same defensive mistakes time after time.
The team from Wisconsin is hoping to get things figured out following the All-Star break, as they head into the weekend on a 2-game losing streak with their 2 stars and head coach heading to Indiana to participate in the main event.
