The
Philadelphia 76ers are hoping that star centre Joel
Embiid will come back before the start of the playoffs, that is according to an
NBA insider Ramona Shelburne.
The 29-year-old has been out of action since January 31
because of an injury and his absence had an impact on the overall proceedings
for the Sixers.
Shelburne was recently quoted in a report where she revealed
that the player is doing some light workouts on the court but is in no way near
full fitness.
“Well, he’s not anywhere close right now to coming back, but
he is able to get on the court and do some light work here,” said the 44-year-old.
“The hope that they have in Philly is that they can just stay in the mix for
Joel Embiid to come back the last week or so of the season, at least where he
has a chance to get back some conditioning before the playoffs.”
Before getting injured, Embiid was having a sublime season
as he was registering 35.3 points per game which is still the best average
points per game this season by any player. That’s not it as he was also
contributing 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
His last outing before getting injured was against the
Indiana Pacers where he registered 14 points to go with seven rebounds and two
assists.
