Boston Celtics GM
Brad Stevens has stated the primary reason
behind signing
Kristaps Porzingis and
Jrue Holiday in the recent past.
The 29-year-old joined the Celtics in July 2023 on a two-year
contract where he is set to earn $60 million. On the other hand, Holiday joined the Celtics in October.
The move proved to be a masterstroke, at least as far as Porzingis is concerned who is now one of the star performers for the Celtics.
Stevens was recently quoted in a report where he stated that
the primary reason to sign players like Porzingis and Holiday is to ensure that the squad
keeps improving as no improvement means that there is a decline.
“I think we’re always evaluating how we can get better,
because I think if you’re not trying to get better, you’re probably going to
get caught,” he said. “And, you know, we weren’t where we wanted to be anyways
as far as a Finals or championship team. So getting caught is just something
that I just think you always have to be alert to.”
This season, Porzingis, who is playing as a center, is
averaging 20.2 points per game which is the third-best by a Celtics player this
season. He is only behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on that list. That’s
not it as he is also contributing 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
Holiday, on the other hand, is contributing 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for Celtics.
