The
Los Angeles Lakers beat the
Indiana Pacers on Sunday night during one of the highest-scoring games in their history and one of the highest-scoring of the season. In the end, LA scored a big 150-145 victory that brought them one step closer to the playoffs.
After the game, Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle spoke about one big problem he had with the game: the amount of free throws the Lakers got.
"There were certain things that were impossible to overcome...The 27 free throw differential is one and the 17 foul differential is the other. And I'll leave it at that," Carlisle said.
During the game, the Pacers had 16 free-throw attempts, compared to the Lakers' 43. And Indiana also had 31 personal fouls during the game, much more than LA's 14.
Carlisle isn't the first one to complain about Los Angeles' time spent at the free throw line. They have 420 more free throw attempts this season than the Pacers and more than 200 more than the second-place Milwaukee Bucks. So there is an argument to be made about LA getting more shots at the charity stripe. However, it won't do much for the Carlisle or any other team.
