The Dallas Mavericks have undergone a lot of changes, both good and bad, under the leadership of head coach Jason Kidd. They are currently the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 43-29 record and poised to reach the playoffs, something they failed to do last season.
Kidd has his fair share of fans and critics and he is hoping that the fans get the last say because he is reportedly "hopeful" that he can earn a contract extension from the Mavericks this summer, according to The Athletic.
Kidd is signed with the Mavericks through next season so if he can get a contract deal this summer, he will remain in Dallas for a long time. There are many reasons to believe that the front office retains Kidd for a few more seasons.
At the same time, if the Mavericks fall apart in the postseason, that could all be in jeopardy. The management of the Mavericks are desperate to hold onto Luka Doncic and they know that if the team underperforms, he might decide to take his talent elsewhere. Therefore, if the team struggles, Kidd could be given the axe as a way to change directions.
At the same time, Doncic allegedly likes playing under Kidd so that could also play into their decision to keep him around. In fact, his working relationship with Luka might be the biggest reason why he stays in Dallas for the next several years.
Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Jason Kidd have become quite a force in the West but how much longer will they be together?
