Jaylen Brown always break down some really good answers when he's interviewed, and in this case, the Boston Celtics' star wasn't affraid to respond with honesty in the All-Star Media Day, when he was asked about the balance between offense and defense in the NBA, how much do rules play a part on this aspect.
The Boston Celtics are enjoying a remarkable present, currently standing atop of the NBA, with a record of 43 wins and just 12 losses. All of this is partially due to counting on two great players: Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Brown, precisely, plays a crucial role in Boston's defense, and when he was asked about what changes he would do to restore the balance between offense and defense in today's game, he answered:
"I believe that the league is getting what they wanted, they wanted higher scoring games, create more situations that can be marketed. I think that's a part of the business," said Jaylen.
"As a purist, for the purity of the game, I would definitely like to see more more defensive rules, or that can be on the side of the defender. It's like its hard to guard anybody, that's why I feel such respect to the ones who are commited to that side of the ball, because right now, we pay attention to the ones who can score. Those are the ones who we consider our best players. We completely ignore defense, like it's not even a part of how good of a player someone is. Its just about how of an offensive player is. That's how we talk about our game these days."
We can see how Brown values the defensive part of the game, an aspect that he enjoys to work on and recognizes it in other players.
"And as a part of you guys, media, fans...you guys set the tone for that. You all should start praising guys who play both sides of the basketball a lot more, and then maybe some things would change," concluded the 27-year-old player.
