It's been a wild few months for NBA coach
Doc Rivers. Just last summer, he was fired from his position of leading the Philadelphia 76ers after another disappointing postseason. He then got a job as a courtside broadcaster for ESPN. But he only held that position for a few months before he was hired by the
Milwaukee Bucks as their new head coach.
With Rivers no longer able to give his expert opinion and analysis during the upcoming postseason, ESPN has chosen a replacement:
JJ Redick.
Yahoo Sports and other outlets are reporting that Redick has reached a deal with ESPN and ABC to replace Rivers in the NBA Finals this summer. Redick will join a team that consists of Mike Breen and Doris Burke. They replace Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, who were fired last year as ESPN and ABC shook up their franchises.
Redick has been a very busy man since retiring from the NBA in 2021. He has a very popular podcast called The Old Man & The Three and has also done plenty of television appearances, stating his sometimes red-hot opinions about multiple NBA topics.
Redick is a great mix of basketball IQ and experience and is also a young, fresh face for broadcast television. As for Rivers, he is hoping that he will also be back at the Finals, but this time as a coach leading his team instead of a commentator.
