There was no love between the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons on Valentine's Day. It all started before the game even started, as Isaiah Stewart punched Drew Eubanks following an altercation between the 2 big men. It's unknown what the argument was about but things got heated and violent hours before tipoff.
With tensions already high, the game began and 6 minutes in, Devin Booker received his second technical foul and was ejected from the contest. Luckily, the Phoenix Suns were still able to pull out a 116-100 victory over the Detroit Pistons behind heroics from Kevin Durant, but after the game he had some comments about the whole situation.
KD first stated that it's tough being an NBA player, as all eyes are on you. It's important to keep the main thing the main thing, meaning that the mindset is to always just focus on basketball. He mentions that this is supposed to be a brotherhood, and even though things like tonight's pregame altercation happens, hopefully both teams can just move on and grow from it.
He then proceeded to say that the whole team got Drew's back and will be by his side throughout the season. That's their brother and at the end of the day, they are all working together to reach the ultimate goal of winning a championship.
When talking about the situation involving co-star Devin Booker, Durant said that he was surprised at what transpired. He told reporters that Book was talking to him, but essentially he must have said something that ticked the refs off. The former MVP knew that things were on edge because of the initial incident and he believed the officials didn't want things to escalate during the matchup.
The future Hall of Famer said that the Suns aren't a dirty team but he understands where the refs were coming from. He discussed how little things such as body language could be called for based on the circumstances, but ultimately he felt that they were quick to eject Devin Booker, stating that the 2 techs given were way quicker than normal.
Despite all this drama heading into All-Star weekend, the 2-time champion scored 25 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists to give Phoenix a 2-game winning streak heading into the break.
