The starting 5 for both teams played amazing, as they each
combined for over 90 of their teams’ total points. However,
Kristaps Porzingis
had a huge impact on this game as he led the
Boston Celtics to a 125-117
victory over the
Atlanta Hawks at TD Garden.
Jayson Tatum is having another spectacular season, averaging
27 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while leading the Celtics to the top
seed in the NBA. JT was named to his 5th straight All-Star
appearance and he’s currently 5th in MVP voting. The Celtics are
favorites to come out of the East and it’s thanks to his dominant play.
KP led the team in scoring tonight, finishing with 31 points
along with 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocks. Derrick White had an all-around
game, ending with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block on 57%
shooting. Jayson Tatum had 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists while Jaylen
Brown recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Veteran Al Horford did a
little bit of everything, contributing 14 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 2
steals, and 4 blocks.
For the Hawks, Saddiq Bey led the team in scoring with his
25 points along with 9 rebounds.
Trae Young finished with 20 points and 10 assists
while breakout forward Jalen Johnson had 19 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, and
3 steals. Onyeka Okongwu ended with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks while
Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 12 points.
This win improves the Celtics to 39-12 on the season. Boston
is 7-3 over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game winning streak. Their
next game will be on Friday night against the Washington Wizards.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Hawks to 22-29, which makes
them 10th in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta is now 2 games behind the 9th
seeded Chicago Bulls and 1.5 games above the 11th seeded Brooklyn Nets. They
are 4-6 over their last 10 games and currently on a 2-game losing streak. Their
next game will be on Friday night against the Philadelphia 76ers, and we’ll see
if they make any changes to their roster from now till then.
