In the battle of LA, it was the purple and gold who came out
on top as the
Los Angeles Lakers came back from down 21 in the fourth to beat
the
Los Angeles Clippers 116-112 at Crypto.com Arena behind a memorable
performance by
LeBron James.
The King had another dominant showing tonight and he is
proving that whenever he’s on the court, there’s always a chance for his team to
win. Despite trailing by 19 heading into the 4th, the Lakers kept fighting.
The 4-time MVP led the way with 19 points and 5 triples in the final quarter, including
a series of possessions where he simply took over.
The 4-time champion finished the game with 34 points, 6
rebounds, and 8 assists on 62% shooting and hitting 7/12 threes. He was truly
outstanding and he is proving once again that he is one of the best players in
NBA history and in the GOAT conversation.
Anthony Davis ended the night with 20 points, 12 rebounds,
and 3 blocks while D’Angelo Russell had 18 points. Rui Hachimura scored 17
points and Austin Reaves contributed 13 points with 8 rebounds.
For the Clippers, they were without All-Star
Paul George and
it hurt them down the stretch on both ends of the court. In his absence,
superstar
Kawhi Leonard stepped up, as he finished with 26 points, 7 rebounds,
and 6 assists on 58% shooting. James Harden had 23 points and 9 assists while
Terrance Mann scored 16 points. Norman Powell provided a spark with his 14
points off the bench.
This was a quality win for the Lakers over one of the Western
Conference juggernauts, and now they improve to 32-28. The Lakeshow proved that
with LBJ and AD, they can compete with anybody in the league and that was shown
once again.
No matter where they finish in the standings, as long as they make
the playoffs they will be a tough matchup for any team. The purple and gold are
7-3 over their last 10 games and will look to pick up another win tomorrow
against the Washington Wizards.
Meanwhile, this was a devastating loss for the Clippers and
now they fall to 37-20. After holding the top seed in the West for a short
stint, they now sit as the 4th seed and 4 games below the 1st
seeded Timberwolves. Despite blowing a huge lead, the Clips are still a very
strong team and is one of the favorites to come out of the conference. They are
on a 2-game losing streak and will look to bounce back on Friday against the Wizards.
