The
Los Angeles Lakers are obviously a team to watch as the upcoming NBA
trade deadline gets closer and closer. For weeks now, fans have been anticipating some substantial changes to the roster in order to help them reach the Western Conference Finals again.
Many names, including Dejounte Murray and Bruce Brown, have been linked to LA but a pair of players from the Washington Wizards should also be in the mix.
Brian Windhorst recently reported that
Tyus Jones is the "most likely" Wizards player to be traded before February. Meanwhile, big man
Daniel Gafford could also be on the trade market.
Both of those players could be grabbed by the Lakers, who need their special styles of play. Jones would be of particular interest to LA, as he could help them in the guard position and could offer them great ball-handling and playmaking. Plus, his contract is less expensive than many other alternatives out there.
For the season, Jones is putting up 12.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.
As for Gafford, he is a lesser-known big man who has been gaining a lot of attention lately. With an average of 10.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, he could be a cheap contract that greatly enhances the Lakers' frontcourt.
Neither of these players would give the Lakers a blockbuster trade that some people expect. But they could quietly assist the roster and could so on a fair budget, which is very attractive to LA's front office.
