The purple and gold were without
LeBron James in this contest, so somebody needed to step up. That’s exactly what D’Angelo Russell did in this matchup, as he scored a season-high and hit the game-winning floater to give the
Los Angeles Lakers a 123-122 victory over the
Milwaukee Bucks at Crypto.com Arena.
This matchup featured star power on both sides, but D’Lo stole the show in Tinseltown. He was on fire in this contest, single-handedly keeping the Lakeshow within striking distance.
Giannis Antetokounmpo hit a bank shot with 48 seconds left to give the Bucks a 4-point lead, and that’s when Russell took over and became the hero of the night. The following possession he drove to the lane and hit an And-1 finger roll to put LA within 1 point.
The ensuing offensive possession saw the former All-Star drive past
Damian Lillard and hit a floater with 6 seconds remaining to take a 1 point lead. On their final defensive stance, Spencer Dinwiddie came up clutch, as he blocked Dame on his stepback jumper to potentially win the game.
It was an entertaining matchup with a chaotic finish, and this performance was accomplished without the help from superstar LeBron James. In this contest, D’Angelo Russell scored a season high 44 points while shooting 9/12 from behind the arc.
Anthony Davis finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks while Austin Reaves scored 18 points.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had a huge triple-double, finishing with 34 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. Damian Lillard scored 28 points with 12 assists while hitting 4 three pointers. Malik Beasley and Pat Connaughton each hit 4 triples as well, ending with 14 and 17 points, respectively.
This was a huge statement win for the Lakers, who improve to 35-30. They sit 1 game behind the Dallas Mavericks for the 8th seed in the West, which would give them 2 chances in the play-in tournament compared to 1. Los Angeles is 6-4 over their last 10 games and will look to build more momentum on Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Meanwhile, the Bucks drop to 41-23 with this loss, falling to the 3rd seed in the East. After a hot start post All-Star break, Milwaukee has now lost 2 straight games. They will look to get back on track on Sunday against the Clippers.
