During their years together in the NBA, Kevin Garnett and LeBron James were major opponents and fought against each other many times. But today, Garnett is an NBA commentator and can see the greatness of his one-time rival.
And he believes that the Los Angeles Lakers legend wasn't given the proper amount of respect recently when he made history with 40,000 career points. Speaking on All The Smoke, Garnett said that the game should have briefly paused after James crossed that milestone.
He also said that everything James was wearing and the ball he scored with should have been collected so it could sit in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Massachusetts.
Garnett and many others understand just how special that moment was. James did something that no other NBA star ever has - and something that no other NBA star might ever do. Just last season, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with the most all-time points in NBA history. This season, he passed that number even more when he became the first basketball player to cross the 40,000-point mark.
And since James is still playing great basketball at 39 years old, he likely has a few more seasons left in him. That means that he will just keep adding to that total in the years ahead.
James' recent achievement was truly something that has never been seen and might not ever be seen again and Garnett feels it should have been handled better.
At this point, James might score another historic milestones before he retires, so maybe the league will handle those better.
