The
Los Angeles Lakers won an important game on Wednesday night, easily beating the Dallas Mavericks and scoring their second victory in a row. During that game,
LeBron James scored 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Immediately after the conclusion of the game, James jaunted to the locker room so he could watch another game—one that featured his son, USC freshman
Bronny James.
James spoke with the press while he watched, obviously very engaged with how well his son's team was doing. They would ultimately lose to Arizona, 82-67 but Bronny had his best college game yet and scored 11 points.
The game once again reignited speculation about Bronny playing with his father in the NBA next year, either with the Lakers or on another team.
Bronny is averaging less than six points per game so far during his stint in college but he remains a big draft prospect for multiple teams, partly because of his last name and his father's legacy.
In the past, LeBron has mentioned that he would love to play alongside his son. He even said that he would accept less money in a contract if it meant that he got to suit up with Bronny. But it would take very careful maneuvering by the Lakers to make that happen.
Meanwhile, LeBron has an opt-out clause in his contract after this season, which means he could decide to leave the Lakers in favor of whatever NBA team drafts his son.
It's very likely that LeBron will return to the Lakers next season, especially because it would guarantee him an additional $51 million. But there is also the possibility that he could pressure the team's front office to sign his son in the draft. Would the Lakers be able to make that happen or risk losing the biggest star they have?
