Los Angeles Lakers are set to unveil a statute in memory of
their legendary star player
Kobe Bryant on Thursday.
Bryant passed away in a tragic helicopter crash with his
daughter on January 26, 2020, at the age of 41. He is regarded as one of the
greatest players in the history of the NBA.
To acknowledge the services of Bryant, especially
for his franchise, the Lakers management will be unveiling his statue on
Thursday in a restricted event outside the Crypto.com Arena.
Bryant will join an elite list of Lakers players who will
have a statue in acknowledgement of their services to the franchises.
Previously, the likes of Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
Earvin Johnson, Jerry West and Chick Hearn also had their statute placed by the
Lakers.
The Philadelphia-born played all his career for the Lakers
which lasted for nearly two decades. In that time, he ended up registering a
whopping 33, 643 points on the court.
His best season in terms of points generation was 2005-06
where he scored 2,832 points to go with 425 rebounds and 360 assists to his
name.
Bryant won five NBA Championships
with the Lakers. He was named the Most Valuable Player in the NBA Finals two times.
In 2008, he was also named the NBA Most Valuable Player of the season.
