The
Charlotte Hornets picked up an unexpected win on Saturday, as they defeated the
Brooklyn Nets 110-99 at Spectrum Center behind
Miles Bridges big performance.
The 12th overall pick in 2018 has really played well this season, averaging 21.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. The 25-year-old has arguably been the best player on the Hornets this year due to All-Star guard LaMelo Ball being injured for majority of the team’s games. Bridges will be an unrestricted free agent this off-season so it will be interesting if Charlotte retains him or if he finds a new home elsewhere.
He popped off in his 39 minutes of action tonight, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Miller scored 17 points while Nick Richards recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds. Vasilije Micic had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists in his 31 minutes of play.
Cam Thomas scored a game high 31 points while hitting 5/10 three pointers.
Mikal Bridges ended with 19 points while Nic Claxton had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Dennis Schroder recorded 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Charlotte improves to 16-48 with this win. Despite another disappointing season for the Hornets, they have something to look forward to and that is the progression of their rookie Brandon Miller. A young core of him, Ball, and another top 5 pick will be promising for the future. Over their last 10 games, this team is 3-7 and they will face off against the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
Brooklyn drops to 25-39 with this loss and now sit 4.5 games out of the play-in race. It’s starting to look like the Nets will miss the playoffs this season which isn’t ideal as they don’t even own their first round pick (Houston has it from the James Harden trade). They are 4-6 in their last 10 games and will play tomorrow against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
