The Timberwolves faced the Blazers in a rematch of Tuesday night's contest. In this game, the same result happened, as Minnesota defeated Portland 128-91 at the Moda Center behind a big Anthony Edwards performance.
The Wolves ended started off hot, going up by 30 points at the end of the 1st quarter. They kept their foot on the gas and easily reached their 20th road win of the season, which makes them the first team in the NBA to achieve that this season.
Anthony Edwards led all scorers with 34 points tonight. Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 23 points while Jaden McDaniels had 17 points. Rudy Gobert had an 11 point, 12 rebound double double. Mike Conley rounded out the starting unit with 12 points.
For Portland, Jerami Grant led the way with 20 points. Scoot Henderson scored 15 points and it was announced by head coach Chauncey Billups that the rookie would remain the starter for the rest of the season. Anfernee Simons struggled tonight, scoring 12 points on 27% shooting.
In his press conference, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said that despite their amazing start to the season and strong finish heading into the All-Star break, they need to make sure they stay hungry. With the West so competitive and the fight for the top seed in anyone's grasp, it's important to take every game seriously.
He was proud of his team for their strong start, mentioning that this could have been a trap game since they are playing the same team from a few nights ago and the All-Star weekend is right around the corner. However, his squad did not take the night off, instead they went harder and put the game out of reach early.
Finch credited the hot start to the team defense, stating that defense travels everywhere and it will keep the crowd out of the game when on the road, and that certainly was the case tonight.
