The trade deadline is approaching fast, February 8 th is right down the corner. Let's take a look at which Western Conference teams are in position for making some exchanges, improve their rosters and accomplish their objectives.
Yardbarker's colleagues have analyzed what each franchise in the West needs, including teams that absolutely must make a move like the Los Angeles Lakers, or Golden State Warriors, and others like the Oklahoma City Thunder that with a small tweak, it seems they could take a giant step in their aspirations.
Oklahoma City Thunder.
With a solid record, the Oklahoma City Thunder are in an enviable position. The suggestion is clear: don't make drastic moves. The temptation to acquire players like P.J. Washington or Dorian Finney-Smith is understandable, but dismantling the team before the postseason would be a mistake.
Minnesota Timberwolves.
Despite their outstanding defensive performance, the Timberwolves are looking to strengthen their offense. The recommendation is to explore the possibility of bringing back Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls to boost his game at crucial moments.
Denver Nuggets.
The reigning champion Nuggets don't need to make any rash moves. Although their bench has changed, the team still projects to be a title contender. The suggestion is to evaluate young players in postseason minutes and consider adjustments in the summer if necessary.
Los Angeles Clippers
Despite the James Harden-led transformation, the Clippers could benefit from another playmaker. Tyus Jones of the Washington Wizards could be the missing piece to co-direct the offense in Harden's absence.
New Orleans Pelicans.
The Pelicans, surprisingly in contention for a top-four spot in the West, could improve their depth with a backup center. The suggestion is to offer a pick for Nick Richards, taking advantage of player sales in Charlotte.
Phoenix Suns.
Despite Devin Booker's excellent performance, the Suns could benefit from a backup facilitator. With six straight wins, a player who can handle the ball in Booker's absence could be crucial.
Sacramento Kings.
The Kings, back as a competitive team, could make a bold move to get closer to the West's elite. Jerami Grant would be an excellent fit if Portland is willing to part with him.
Dallas Mavericks.
As the season progresses, the Mavericks need more contributions from players other than Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving. A player like Bruce Brown of the Toronto Raptors, a versatile connector, could be vital.
Los Angeles Lakers
While the hope of acquiring Zach LaVine seems to be vanishing, the Lakers, led by LeBron James, desperately need to look for reinforcements. With limited options, players like Gordon Hayward could be considered.
Utah Jazz
Despite three straight losses, the Jazz, are exceeding expectations, so they should remain patient. With a talented young point guard, future draft picks and a promising coach in Will Hardy, there is no need to rush.
Houston Rockets.
Similar to the Jazz, the Rockets must avoid drastic moves that will affect their long-term projection. Moderate upgrades around promising players like Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson are the way to go.
Golden State Warriors.
With a sizable gap to the elite teams in the West, the Warriors need significant changes. The disposition of Chris Paul and possibly Jonathan Kuminga could be part of a needed revamp.
Memphis Grizzlies.
With injuries affecting their season, the Grizzlies could consider moderate trade moves. Trades such as Luke Kennard or Santi Aldama could provide valuable assets.
Portland Trail Blazers.
With the need to rebuild, the Trail Blazers should start a bidding war for Malcolm Brogdon. His sale could be valuable to multiple title contenders.
San Antonio Spurs.
Facing a difficult year, the Spurs must surround their star with good players as soon as possible. The focus must be on improving the quality of the team, as it is currently a challenge to see them in action.
