It was absolute fireworks at Frost Bank Center as
Jalen Brunson and
Victor Wembanyama went head-to-head getting buckets. Ultimately, it was the rookie who came out on top as the
San Antonio Spurs defeated the
New York Knicks 130-126.
The first time All-Star scored a career-high 61 points for the Knicks, including 5 triples. He was on fire and could not be stopped on the court.
Donte DiVincenzo provided 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals with 6 three-pointers. Josh Hart finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists while Mitchell Robinson contributed 7 points and 12 boards off the bench.
Wemby was just as unstoppable in this one as he finished with 40 points, 20 rebounds, and 7 assists with 4 made triples for the Spurs. Devin Vassell had 23 points and 7 assists while Keldon Johnson scored 17 points off the bench. Tre Jones finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
New York drops to 44-29 with this loss and falls to the 4th seed in the East. They are in the fighting for a top 4 seed in order to host a round 1 playoff series so this loss hurts. Luckily for them, they have a bit of a cushion but they need to continue to pick up wins so they don't slide down too much.
They are getting healthy at the right time and with Brunson playing like a superstar, they can make a deep run in the playoffs. The Knicks are 7-3 over their last 10 games and will play against OKC on Sunday.
San Antonio improves to 18-56 with this win and have shown that they can compete with the best of teams on any given night. Vic is looking like a franchise superstar and will continue to dominate this league. The Spurs are on a 3-game winning streak and will play the Warriors on Sunday.
