NBA Transfers: Ahead of the final stretch of the 2023/24 NBA regular season, and as a reinforcement in a roster where the absence of Joel Embiid continues to make a dent,
Philadelphia 76ers has decided to sign
Darius Bazley, who until now resided in the G League, on a 10-day contract.
This has been advanced by the journalist and reputed 'insider' in The Athletic, Shams Charania. The Sixers sign Bazley, who played for the Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA's developmental league. Entering his fifth season in the competition, Bazley is coming off a career-high 38 points and 15 rebounds in his last game, while also averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds as one of the top talents in the G League.
It is worth remembering that Darius Bazley came to the NBA in the 2019 Draft, when he was selected with the 23rd pick in the first round, and that he has quite a bit of experience at the top level. He was part of the Okahoma City Thunder rotation (in fact in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons he was a starter for the OKC franchise) from 2019 until February 9, 2023, when he was traded to Phoenix Suns in exchange for Dario Saric.
Last summer he signed a contract with Brooklyn Nets from the 2023 Free Agency, but was cut before the start of the season. It wasn't until Dec. 8 that he returned to basketball with the Delaware Blue Coats.
Now, at the Sixers, he will look to make a significant impact with his 10-day contract that will see him sign with the Pennsylvania franchise for the remainder of the season with the goal of returning to top-level basketball and being able to recapture a performance that saw him average 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in his best year with the OKC Thunder.
