Adam Silver is reportedly edging closer to extending his
contract as the commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The
61-year-old has been associated with the league for a long time and succeeded David
Stern in 2014.
According to a report published by ESPN, Silver is now
edging closer to completing his contract extension with the league which would
see him continue in the role closer to the end of the decade.
Silver is quite a popular figure in the managerial circles
of the NBA. Before taking the commissioner role, he worked as the deputy commissioner for eight years.
During his time in the office, he showcased his leadership
skills, especially during the time of the COVID-19 outbreak where he suspended the
season after one of the players tested positive for the pathogen.
Not only that but he also came up with the idea of creating a
bubble in Orlando to ensure that the season in 2020 will be completed and that
the league will not suffer huge financial losses.
In the recent past, Silver, whose responsibilities include
dealing with bans, suspensions and team sales, has been involved in successful
negotiations with the National Basketball Players Association that ensured a
number of things including reshaping the salary system.
