Lauri Markkanen shined with an outstanding performance in
Utah Jazz's last game, where they defeated Indiana Pacers. Before the showdown, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle praised Markkanen unreservedly, comparing him to none other than
Dirk Nowitzki.
Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune shared Carlisle's statements, where he said Markkanen is "the closest thing I've seen to (Dirk) Nowitzki."
This analogy takes on special significance given that Nowitzki played under Carlisle and was a key player on the Mavs' 2011 championship team.
Lauri Markkanen is performing at an impressive level. The Finnish is averaging 24 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this season, backing up his All-Star selection and Most Improved Player award in the 2022/23 season.
In addition, Markkanen's excellent moment pairs with his Jazz, who are the hottest team in the NBA right now. The Salt Lake City franchise has won its last six games, settling in the Western Conference play-in zone with a 22-20 record, and with the goal of continuing to climb into the direct playoff qualifying positions.
