Rookie of the Year Award: The
San Antonio Spurs ' young center
Victor Wembanyama is one of
the most-talked players in the division. His performances at such a young age
and in a team which has struggled throughout has now made him one of the
players to watch out for in the future.
Wembanyama’s this season has been nothing short of spectacular
and he has shown it time and again that he is a special talent. It is for this reason that he is now among the top-five rookies of the season ever
in the history of the NBA.
Wembanyama is currently placed in the fourth position on that
illustrious list, featuring some of the very best of their respective generations.
The first on that list is David Robinson who also played for
the Spurs. In the 1989-90 season, while playing as a rookie, he ended up
registering 24.3 points, 12 Rebounds, 3.9 blocks and two assists per game.
He is followed by
Shaquille O'Neal (Orlando Magic, 1992-1993),
Michael Jordan (Chicago Bulls, 1984-85), Wembanyama and
Larry Bird (Boston
Celtics, 1979-80).
Wembanyama has been contributing 20.7 points per game which is
the best any Spurs player in this campaign. That’s not it as he is also
contributing 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
