The
Cleveland Cavaliers star shooting guard
Donovan Mitchell
has been ruled out for a week after going through a procedure to fix nasal fracture.
The 27-year-old recently returned to the court after missing
seven straight games. But in his first outing on return, he suffered a nasal injury.
Cavaliers confirmed in a press release that Mitchell underwent surgery and that he will be out of action for at least a week.
"A medical procedure was performed this morning at
Cleveland Clinic to realign the affected area Mitchell will be reevaluated in
approximately one week and his status will be updated as appropriate," the
statement read.
The development will be a severe blow for the Cavaliers as Mitchell
has been in instrumental form for the franchise this season.
The New York-born is averaging 27.4 points per game which is
by far the best by any Cavaliers player this season and the sixth-best by in
the competition. To go with that, he has also contributed 5.3 rebounds and 6.1
assists per game per game.
His most impressive outing this season came in the match
against the Brooklyn Nets back in January where he ended up registering 45
points, 12 rebounds and six assists for the Cavaliers.
