Trade Deadline: The
Brooklyn Nets are having a difficult season and are currently the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference but the front office believes in the team's future and apparently isn't willing to trade one of its biggest stars.
The team reportedly rejected an offer from the Memphis Grizzlies for
Mikal Bridges. In exchange for Bridges, the Nets would have received four first-round draft picks.
It's understandable that the Nets would be hesitant to part ways with Bridges, who is averaging 21.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists so far this season.
Bridges joined the Nets last season after the team sent Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns. Since then, he has become the cornerstone of Brooklyn's plans and has greatly improved his output on the court.
Some fans expected the Nets to deal Bridges away because of how much they could get in return for him, but it appears as if the team wants to stick with him, at least for the foreseeable future.
There is also a chance that the Nets will trade Bridges if they receive a better offer from the Grizzlies or another team.
The Nets have lost their last 13 of 16 games but they haven't made any big deals to improve their chances of reaching the playoffs. And the Grizzlies aren't doing well either, currently the 13th team in the West with a 15-25 record.
The team has been held back by various injuries and the absence of Ja Morant, the team's star guard who sat out of the first 25 games of the season due to a league suspension.
