Rumors: The
Golden State Warriors reportedly inquired about landing
LeBron James last week before the NBA trade deadline but their hopes were quickly dashed when both James and
Los Angeles Lakers made it clear that he wasn't going anywhere, at least for now.
But just because the Warriors didn't have luck at the trade deadline doesn't mean they'll stop pursuing James. According to ESPN's Zach Lowe, Golden State's hunt for James continues.
“You can’t blame the Warriors for trying, and I’ll tell you this," Low recently said. " I don’t think the Warriors are done trying because like Steph [Curry] said, why not pick up the phone and keep on trying?”
The Warriors failed to make this blockbuster trade work last week but can they pull it off in the summer?
In some ways, it would be easier for Golden State to get LeBron in the offseason. He has a player option with the Lakers, which means he could elect to leave the team and go up to the Warriors without that front office having to send away a bunch of players in his place.
Additionally, if the Lakers continue to flounder and don't make it far in the postseason, James might have more of an incentive to listen to a possible deal with Golden State. He may feel burned out on the Lakers and willing to try a change of scenery.
Of course, would Golden State really be that attractive to LeBron? They are currently doing worse than the Lakers and if James really wants to win another championship before retirement, they might not give him the best option. Plus, if LA is able to get his son, Bronny, in the draft then James will really probably stick around in Southern California.
