Coming into 2023-24, all NBA analysts agreed that the
Phoenix Suns had one singular goal for the year: go very far in the playoffs with their new big three of
Kevin Durant,
Devin Booker, and
Bradley Beal.
Unfortunately for the Suns, this trio hasn't had a lot of time to play together because of injuries and that has caused Phoenix to only achieve the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
That means that if the playoffs started today, the Suns would have to battle their way through the Play-In Tournament. To make matters even worse, the Suns have the hardest remaining schedule compared to other NBA teams.
In the days ahead, the Suns will face off against the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacramento Kings. They will also face the New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Los Angeles Clippers two times each.
Each of those teams has a better record than the Suns and none of them are expected to have any big stars sitting out either. That means the Suns will have to beat fully healthy, incredibly competitive, and successful squads in the final days of the regular season.
This is the toughest final 10-game stretch since the 2015-16 Memphis Grizzlies, who went 1-9 against teams like the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.
The good news for the Suns is that if they play very well, they could climb higher in the standings and not have to participate in the Play-In. But if things do not go their way, they could fall out of playoff contention entirely.
