Undrafted out of Wake Forest in 2010 and now NBA CHAMPION in Year 13... Ish Smith!
With little to no moves before the trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors surely are considering signing one of the many good players available as free agents before March 1st. Spencer Dinwiddie already signed with Los Angeles Lakers but there are other options that could help Steve Kerr's team to improve their consistency.
The buyout market has started with the signing of Spencer Dinwiddie by the Los Angeles Lakers, who needed a reinforcement to face the final stretch of a 2023/24 season that is not going well. The Warriors, in a similar situation, would have to 'fish' in that market and get a recent NBA champion: Ish Smith.
Smith won the ring with Denver Nuggets last season, and this season he's been with Charlotte Hornets with little relevance. In fact, the North Carolina franchise decided to cut him on the last day of the transfer window.
With the departure of Cory Joseph, Ish Smith has emerged as the perfect candidate to replace him. A veteran point guard with playoff experience to provide support for the Warriors' emerging young talent alongside leaders Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
Signings like Ish Smith are not expected to make a decisive impact on the court that will deliver wins for the team he plays for. It's an addition that goes beyond that, and one that has become increasingly common in those franchises that aspire to compete in the playoffs every NBA season.
