Steph reacts to not being named an All-Star starter 🔽
It has been a long time since Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors hasn't been selected as an All-Star starter. He has appeared in the starting five in every game between 2014 and 2023. But when the NBA released their list of starters on Thursday, Curry's name wasn't included.
Curry spoke about not making the cut for the starters on Thursday night and was nothing but gracious and grateful. He also heaped a lot of praise on Luka Donic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two guards who earned starting spots over him.
"You got two guys that are playing amazing this year, Luka and Shai," Curry told reporters.
"So, I’ve been around, doing this for a very long time and the fact that it’s a talking point I’m not [an All-Star starter] after nine healthy years…Those two guys are playing amazing," he continued.
"They deserve it,” Curry added. “Hopefully I’m there in Indiana in whatever capacity. But yeah, to still be doing it at this stage, it’s always a challenge. You don’t ever take for granted the fact that how hard it is to be recognized in that way every year."
Curry did quite well in the voting, especially with fans, but when the player and media vote was taken into account, he slipped behind both Doncic and Gilgeous-Alexander.
However, there is still a very strong chance that Curry will still appear in the All-Star Game, as a reserve. The league will announce reserve players for both teams on February 1 and most people agree that he will be included in that list. He will also participate in other events during All-Star Weekend.
This is just the latest blow for Curry, who has had a tough season because of the troubles his Warriors have faced. But perhaps he will turn his time as a reserve player into an opportunity to turn the year around.
