The hearing took place this Tuesday in a Manhattan courtroom. There, former Houston Rockets player Kevin Porter Jr reached a settlement regarding an incident ocurred with his ex-girlfriend, Kyrse Gondrezick back in September.
According to this agreement, Porter agreed the charges of third-degree reckless assault -considered a misdemeanor- and second-degree harassment, classified as a violation.
The settlement includes the possibility of Porter having the charges dropped, after successfully completing a court-determined program within one year.
Porter's attorneys stated that this agreement will allow the player to put the incident -which initially involved felony charges and false facts- behind him, and that this step will allow him to move forward without having a criminal record.
The case dates back to an incident at the Millennium Hilton in New York on Sept. 11, when Porter was arrested for an alleged attack on Gondrezick.
Although it was initially reported that the attack resulted in a fractured neck vertebra and a deep cut over Gondrezick's right eye, prosecutors dropped one of the charges in October, acknowledging that the fracture did not occur.
In October, the Houston Rockets traded for Porter to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who subsequently released him.
This court settlement marks a significant step in the resolution of the case and on the road to restoring Porter's reputation in the sports arena.
