Anthony Edwards of the
Minnesota Timberwolves was not very happy with the referees during Monday night's game against the
Oklahoma City Thunder and now he is paying the price for it.
On Thursday, the NBA announced that Edwards has been fined $40,000 for repeatedly publicly criticizing the officiating of the game. After beating the Thunder 107-101, Edwards said "the refs did not give us no calls tonight" in a post-game interview.
He was later heard saying "cheating a-- refs" on camera when talking with his fellow teammates. Before making his first statement, Edwards said that he would gladly "take the fine" so he is not a bit surprised about the financial punishment leveled at him.
Minnesota fans agree with Edwards and feel that the refs were way off base during the game. For example, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder shot 16 free throws in the game by himself, more than all of Minnesota's entire roster. There were also multiple instances of Gilgeous-Alexander and other players for Oklahoma making physical contact with the Timberwolves but not getting called.
The game was highly anticipated because it was a battle between two of the best teams in the Western Conference. The Timberwolves are now the top team in the West with a 34-14 record but the Thunder are right behind them with a very impressive 33-15 record.
