The
Philadelphia 76ers fans are beginning to offer prayers, as their superstar center,
Joel Embiid, has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee. The news was confirmed by a team official.
In the current season, Embiid was being the best player in the league and the leading candidate to revalidate his own MVP title, averaging 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
Embiid's shooting percentages are also impressive, with 53.3% from the field, a respectable 36.6% from three-point range and an excellent 88.3% from the free throw line. He is also the league's best scorer, something he already achieved the last two seasons.
He was leading a 76ers ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference with 29 wins and 17 losses, a misleading record as they were third until Embiid's previous injury.
There is still uncertainty about how the 76ers' medical staff, various specialists and Embiid will move forward to treat the injured meniscus. They will take more days in the coming days to chart a course of action.
