In the
Golden State Warriors' latest NBA loss to the
Chicago Bulls on Thursday, the Bay Area franchise also suffered a troubling injury to
Stephen Curry after the team's star player sprained his ankle.
Curry had to leave the court immediately, setting off alarm bells for a Warriors team that faces the final stretch of the regular season in a delicate position in the Western Conference.
All of Stephen Curry's teammates are already preparing for a considerable period of time without their star player. One of them,
Klay Thompson, was among those who spoke out on the matter: "I know we're going to miss him if he needs time off. We've been in this position before, and we just have to do it collectively. I know he'll be ready when he comes back, whenever that is. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Prior to this injury, Curry had missed just three Golden State Warriors games all season: two due to knee discomfort, and one due to rest. Draymond Green, another GSW mainstay, added: "It sucks, but everybody has to deal with it sooner or later."
Stephen Curry will most likely miss at least a week or two, and it will have to be Chris Paul who will have to assume the role of starting point guard for a franchise that right now can't afford to accumulate many losses.
The Warriors, after losing to the Bulls, remain in 9th place in the Western Conference with a 33-29 record, in playoff positions. However, the Los Angeles Lakers are right on their heels, 10th with 34-30. Being 10th is a very disadvantageous position for the playoffs, since you face your first game as a visitor, and if you manage to win it, you will also have to be a visitor in the duel with the loser of the 7th vs. 8th.
