The Washington Wizards announced that Brian Keefe will be assuming the head coach interim position for the rest of the season. The new Wizard's head coach arrived to Washington this season, but he's been working in the NBA with several team's coaching staffs for more than a decade.
The Wizards announced this Thursday, that Unseld Jr.'s tenure as the franchise's head coach was coming to an end, and that he would take on a management role at that time.
Thus, with Keefe as interim head coach through the conclusion of the 2023/24 NBA season, the Washington Wizards will shelve the search for a new head coach to assume for the next offseason.
Brian Keefe takes over with the Wizards focused on tanking as much as possible. They find themselves with a 7-36 record in the East, and are expected to be one of the favorites to take the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.
In his two and a half seasons as head coach of the Washington Wizards, Wes Unseld Jr. amassed a 77-130 record, a 37.2% winning record with the franchise.
