With the trade deadline behind,
Los Angeles Lakers and
Golden State Warriors, two teams that didn't make any move (Golden State just traded Cory Joseph), are now looking to be more active in the
buyout market.
Spencer Dinwiddie is the chosen for both franchises.
This market will feature prominent names such as Spencer Dinwiddie, Marcus Morris, Joe Harris, and possibly other experienced veterans such as Kyle Lowry, Danilo Gallinari and Davis Bertans.
According to reports from ESPN's Dave McMenamin, both the Lakers and Warriors are currently leading the race to secure the services of Spencer Dinwiddie. The shooting guard was waived by the Toronto Raptors following a trade that sent Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets.
"Sources close to ESPN indicate that the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors are among the leading candidates to sign shooting guard Spencer Dinwiddie once he clears waivers," McMenamin stated. "The 30-year-old Los Angeles native averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 assists for BKN this season."
It is important to note that both the Lakers and Warriors have a significant advantage over other contenders such as the Celtics, Bucks, Nuggets, Clippers, Heat and Suns. These teams are restricted from signing players who had a previous salary above the $12.4M mid-level exception. This places the Lakers and Warriors as prime candidates to sign other veterans who may become available in the near future.
While the Lakers and Warriors are leading the charge, other teams such as the Sixers, Mavs, Knicks and Cavaliers are also expected to be active in the buyout market, creating an intriguing landscape as the postseason approaches.
