The
Golden State Warriors continued their impressive form by defeating the
Utah Jazz 118-110 at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Sunday. This win secures their
play-in spot and keeps them in hopes of overtaking the Los Angeles Lakers in the standings and even fighting to get into the
playoffs outright.
Secure Play-in tournament berth
After securing another win, which was their seventh in the
last eight matches, the Warriors have, at least for now, secured their place in
the play-in tournament for the pre-season.
However, with just four matches to go, things can become
interesting if they win all of them and the teams above end up faltering at
the last hurdle which can give them a chance to sneak into the top-six.
Upcoming fixtures
Looking at what’s left for the Lakers, they have some very
winnable fixtures left including the already eliminated sides Portland Trail
Blazers, Utah Jazz and out-of-form New Orleans Pelicans in three out of the
last four matches. Their only really tough fixture is up against another in-form
side Los Angeles Lakers.
Thompson to the rescue
Veteran shooting guard
Klay Thompson once again delivered
when it mattered the most. The 34-year-old was the standout performer for the
winning team as he registered 32 points to go with five rebounds and four assists.
It was the second time in the last three matches that Thompson delivered an
important performance for the Warriors.
Previously, he registered 29 points in
a crucial win over the Houston Rockets. Therefore, the Warriors fans will be
hoping that the veteran star will continue to deliver for the remainder of the
season as well.
