As reported by NBA insider Shams Charania, the two-time All-Star point guard, Isaiah Thomas, signed with the Salt Lake City Stars, Utah Jazz' G League affiliate. The further intention for the player is to make a come back to the NBA.
Isaiah Thomas time seems like it was a long time ago, and in a certain way it was. Thomas shined back in 2015, playing excellent basketball under Brad Stevens' Boston Celtics. The point guard reached his peak in the season 2016-17, were he was one of the best scorers in all NBA despite being only 5-9. 185lb.
Isaiah displayed a flashy style of play, with killing handles, lighting quickness and good overall shooting, especially in clutch moments. He was among the top 5 MVP candidates between 2015-2017, earning two All-Star game presences and being selected to the All-NBA second team back in 2017.
Thomas proved to be a solid player in the playoffs too, taking the 2017 Boston Celtics all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, despite playing after losing his sister in a car accident during when the first round was starting.
Isaiah played his heart out for Boston and really loved his time there. It's said that he played through a nagging back injury during that period of time which aggravated his condition and influenced his rapid falldown.
He was traded to Cleveland but it didn't worked out. Teams started hunting Isaiah on defense, taking advantage of the size difference. Despite having good numbers offensively, Thomas tried to make his comeback but apparently, he wasn't the same and the NBA had moved on towards a different style of players, way bigger and therefore, more versatile.
Hopefully he gets a new opportunity to demonstrate his worth in a title contender, at least that's on his mind. The 11-year veteran could be another guard option in marketplace, and younger teams could use someone with his experience.
